Brazosport ISD’s cosmetology program marked an exciting milestone this week with a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the soft opening of the Brazosport Student Salon, a hands-on learning space within the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
The event brought together students, staff, and district leaders to recognize the launch of in-school salon services now available to students, teachers, and staff. The student-operated salon provides cosmetology students with meaningful opportunities to apply their skills in a real-world setting while continuing to develop professional techniques and customer service experience.
District leaders emphasized that the salon serves as more than a service—it is a learning lab that bridges classroom instruction with real-world application, giving students a strong foundation for future success in the cosmetology field.
The cosmetology program provides students with instruction in knowledge and skills related to beauty and personal care services, integrating both technical and workplace readiness skills. Students in the program receive instruction aligned to industry standards and state licensure requirements through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Although the program is housed at Brazosport High School, it is open to students across the district, with Brazoswood and Brazos Success Academy students transported to participate in the state-of-the-art program.
The soft opening represents the culmination of planning and collaboration within the CTE Cosmetology program, as campus, district, and community partners worked together to design a learning environment that mirrors industry expectations. Instruction in the program includes hair, skin, and nail care, along with sterilization and sanitation procedures, while also developing an understanding of cosmetology design elements such as form, lines, texture, structure, and depth as they relate to the art of cosmetology. Through the Brazosport Student Salon, students are not only refining technical cosmetology skills—they are also gaining the confidence, professionalism, and experience needed for future careers in the industry.
