Brazosport Independent School District is excited to announce the hiring of Jonathan Rangel as the new Head Boys Soccer Coach at Brazosport High School. Coach Rangel officially joined the Exporter family in April and brings a strong background in both high-level soccer and student development.
Rangel joins Brazosport from 6A Waxahachie High School, where he served as an assistant boys soccer coach and Spanish teacher. With a passion for the game and a deep understanding of student engagement, he has built a reputation for connecting with athletes and helping them grow both on and off the field.
His own playing experience includes time with the Cruz Azul U-20 developmental team from 2009 to 2011, providing him with firsthand insight into elite-level soccer. Rangel also played club-level soccer during his time at Houston Baptist University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 2019, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
In the classroom, Rangel is known for using innovative, student-centered teaching strategies. He holds a Texas certification in Spanish through 2028 and has also taken part in international leadership programs such as Passages Israel and Onward Israel, where he further developed his skills in communication, mentorship, and cultural awareness.
“We are excited to have Coach Rangel lead our boys soccer program at Brazosport High School,” said BISD Athletic Director Jay Zeller. “His soccer knowledge, leadership, and ability to connect with students will be a tremendous asset to our campus and athletic program.”
Coach Rangel is not the only new face on campus—the Rangel family is all-in at Brazosport High School. His wife, Kay Rangel joined the Exporter staff this year as a math teacher, further strengthening the school’s team of dedicated educators.
Please join us in welcoming Coach Jonathan Rangel to Brazosport ISD and the Exporter soccer program!
