The mission of Brazosport ISD is to graduate each student to be future ready, and on February 13, 2025, the district’s senior rocket team will launch into an incredible opportunity ―a tour of the SpaceX Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas. This experience will provide senior rocket students with an exciting opportunity to see innovative minds at work in their program of study.
Throughout BISD’s three year aerospace program, students participate in a deep dive project-based experience, including building and flying high power rockets. Students additionally learn soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and meeting deadlines, all while learning the math, physics, and machines necessary for successful rocket development and launch.
The opportunity to visit the Space X site aligns well with their vision of sending their rocket up to 50,000 feet in the air, in hopes of breaking their own world record.
Here is a link to the world-record flight.
“This is an incredible opportunity for our rocket students to see the real-world possibilities of what they’re learning,” said Bridgette Percle, BISD Director of CTE. “Our programs are designed to prepare students for exciting futures in STEM careers, and experiences like this help inspire their passion for what’s possible.”
We are grateful for our CTE Major Giving Campaign investors whose contributions make amazing opportunities like this possible. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Senator Joan Huffman’s office for helping facilitate this invaluable connection to the SpaceX Spaceport. As BISD continues to provide hands-on learning experiences, the district remains committed to inspiring students and preparing them to reach new heights in their future endeavors.
