Brazosport ISD is proud to announce the recipients of the
2025 Setting the Standard Award, one of the district’s highest honors. This award recognizes employees or groups who go above and beyond in unique, innovative, and creative ways — individuals who truly embody BISD’s vision of
Setting the Standard for Educational Excellence. This year’s honorees include both an outstanding individual and an inspiring team effort.
Chris Wuensche, First Grade Teacher and Art Program Sponsor, Ogg Elementary
Mrs. Chris Wuensche not only teaches first graders with heart and commitment, but she also sets the standard by creating remarkable opportunities for students outside the classroom. Each year she volunteers to facilitate the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Art Competition at Ogg Elementary, giving any interested student the chance to participate. Her love of art drives her each year to provide students with art lessons and the supplies needed to submit competitive art projects. Additionally, she communicates with parents, teachers, and administration to meet timelines for the competition. Her goal is to foster a love of art in her students.
This year, of the 25 student submissions she helped guide, 10 advanced to district-level competition, with 4 selected for display at the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Two of these works were even chosen for a scholarship contest to attend the elite Glassell School of Art summer camp in Houston. Thanks to Mrs. Wuensche’s passion and dedication, students are discovering a lifelong love of art and creativity — opportunities they might not have had without her unwavering support. Advanced Academics, Elementary Gifted and Talented Teacher Team – “Season of Service”
In March 2022, the BISD Elementary Gifted and Talented (GT) Teacher Team launched what began as a simple idea —the Season of Service— and turned it into a meaningful and lasting district tradition. Recognizing that gifted students not only need academic challenges but also social and emotional development, the team set out to instill the importance of empathy, leadership, and community service.
Since its launch, the Season of Service has supported countless local causes: raising funds for animal habitats, supporting local first responders and BISD police officers, donating to Military Moms and Wives of Brazoria County, Keep Texas Beautiful, the SPCA, the Dream Center, the Food Basket, Backpack Buddies, and more.
One standout project this year involved students assembling 60 Birthday Boxes, complete with cake mix, Sprite, icing, pans, candles, cards, and decorations to help local families in need celebrate birthdays in a meaningful way. These boxes are now being delivered to local food pantries and Ogg Elementary families.
The heart of the Season of Service is to unite GT students for a cause, build leadership skills, foster empathy, teach collaboration, and make a real difference in the community. Through their creative service projects, the GT Teacher Team is not only developing scholars but also shaping compassionate, engaged citizens who understand the value of giving back. BISD is honored to recognize this exceptional team for Setting the Standard in educational excellence.
