This is the image for the news article titled Keeping You Informed - Solar Eclipse on April 8We are set to experience a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. During a solar eclipse, the moon moves between the sun and Earth causing a blockage of the sun's face. This rare astronomical occurrence offers a distinctive educational opportunity for our students to engage with space, science, and the world. Campuses have various learning activities planned regarding the eclipse. If you have any questions, concerns, or if you prefer your child not to participate, please reach out to your child's school.

It is not safe to look directly at the sun during an eclipse without specialized eye protection for solar viewing. This is due to the intensity of the sun's ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) that can burn the retinas of the eyes. Although we believe the eclipse will offer a valuable learning opportunity, we encourage parents to discuss the eclipse and safety protocols with them as well.

For additional information regarding the eclipse or to watch the event via live stream, go to the NASA 2024 Total Solar Eclipse website.
