Brazosport Independent School District now offers full day pre-kindergarten at all of its elementary campuses. The district has extended this educational service to reach all of its residents, offering an affordable tuition based option for families who may not qualify for state funded early childhood services.

“Research has shown that children that have the benefit of attending pre-kindergarten are better prepared academically and have better attendance throughout their school years,” said BISD Chief Academic Improvement Officer Clara Sale-Davis. “We are very excited to be able to offer all of our qualifying and non-qualifying early learners this opportunity.”

BISD currently has tuition based available spaces at four of its campuses: Freeport Elementary, Griffith Elementary in Clute, Polk Elementary in Richwood, and Ney Elementary in Lake Jackson. Families do not have to live within the boundaries of the school in order to attend the full day pre-kindergarten program.

The opportunity to apply for tuition based pre-kindergarten is open to parents with a child who meets the following criteria:

  • Child will be 4 years of age by September 1st of the enrollment school year
  • Child resides within the Brazosport ISD attendance boundaries
  • You do not meet the eligibility requirements to enroll in the state-funded pre-kindergarten program (see state qualifications below)

If you are interested in enrolling your child in the tuition based pre-kindergarten at any of our campuses, simply print and fill out the application from our website and drop it off at the campus of your choice. The annual cost of tuition is $5,140 per child. School hours are 8:05 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Open seats will be filled in the order time stamped on their entry.

As part of House Bill 3, which was adopted from the 86th Legislative Session, school districts must offer full day pre-kindergarten programs for qualifying students where space is available.

To qualify for free state funded pre-kindergarten you must:

  • Be unable to speak and comprehend the English language
  • Be educationally disadvantaged, which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program
  • Be homeless
  • Be the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority
  • Be the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
  • Be in, or have been in, the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS)
  • Be the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer, firefighter, or emergency medical first responder
