After nearly 11 years of dedicated leadership, Superintendent Danny Massey has officially become the longest-serving superintendent in the 81 year history of Brazosport Independent School District. Since February 1, 2015, Massey has led with vision, heart, and a relentless commitment to students, staff, and the community.

Massey’s career in public education spans 37 years, including 35 years of service to BISD. Over that time the district has experienced academic growth, facility transformation, strengthened community partnerships, and expanded opportunities that support students well after graduation. Whether focused on improving graduation rates or expanding college, career, and military readiness opportunities, Massey has consistently kept BISD’s mission at the center of every decision ensuring students are prepared for whatever their future may hold.

Those who work alongside Massey often hear him say that “every day is a gift.” It is a simple phrase that reflects how he approaches leadership; with gratitude for the opportunity to serve, appreciation for the work of educators, and a genuine commitment to students and families. That mindset has shaped not only his leadership style, but also the culture across the district. He credits his long tenure to the stability the Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees brings to governing the district, and the outstanding BISD staff.

Throughout his service he has been honored with multiple awards that reflect his impact locally, statewide, and nationally. His honors include:

  • Region 4 Superintendent of the Year for exemplary leadership across a seven-county region of more than 48 districts and 1.2 million students
  • Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, reflecting his impact both in education and the broader community
  • Texas Public Schools Ambassador of the Year by Friends of Texas Public Schools for his advocacy and connection with students and families
  • Named an Inspiring Leader by the Texas Association of School Administrators for his work to prepare students and support educators
  • Educator of the Year by Brazosport LULAC Council for advancing educational opportunities in the Hispanic community
  • National Leadership Fellow by the Positive Coaching Alliance for his contributions to character-building through athletics and student programs
  • Thompson Executive Leadership Institute, one of only 25 superintendents nationwide selected for this elite leadership development program.
  • Brazosport Rotary Paul Harris Fellow

During his time as a district leader, BISD has built state-of-the-art campuses and innovative learning facilities across the district. In addition to five replacement elementary campuses and a new Brazoswood High School, BISD added new Career and Technical Education (CTE) Centers at both Brazoswood and Brazosport high schools. The CTE centers offer hands-on learning in areas such as rocketry, robotics, drones, welding, healthcare, business, culinary arts, cosmetology, and more —equipping students with practical skills that support everyday life, college, careers, and whatever path they choose beyond graduation.

Under Massey’s leadership, BISD has expanded opportunities for students through strong partnerships with local industry and businesses, as well as enhanced dual credit collaborations with Brazosport College. Programs such as the Catalyst Program allow students to earn an associate degree in instrumentation or a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management. This same forward-thinking leadership has guided the district’s innovative response to the teacher shortage, including the establishment of a “Grow Our Own” pathway and a nationally recognized Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program.

Massey’s influence extends beyond BISD. He has served on the boards of local, state, and national organizations including the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce, Brazosport Rotary, Vanessa’s Big Heart Foundation, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and led state and national education advocacy efforts through leadership roles as the President of the Texas School Coalition and Vice President for the Southern States of the Urban Superintendents Association of America.

Known throughout the district and community for his transparency, visibility, and positivity, Massey is a familiar face at student performances, athletic events, and campus or district celebrations. He believes strong schools are built on relationships, and he takes pride in being present, listening, and celebrating the successes of students and staff.

Superintendent Massey holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Missouri Southern State College, a master’s degree in education from Texas Southern University, and superintendent certification from St. Thomas University in Houston.

As Massey continues leading BISD into the future, his record-breaking tenure reflects more than longevity; it reflects a legacy of service. True to his belief that “every day is a gift,” he approaches each moment with gratitude, optimism, and a commitment to helping every student succeed.
