Both the Brazosport High School Symphonic Band and Concert Band earned the prestigious “Sweepstakes” award at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Concert and Sightreading Contest held March 30, 2026. The Sweepstakes honor is awarded to ensembles that receive the highest ratings from judges in both the concert performance and sightreading portions of the competition, representing a significant achievement in musical excellence.
In addition to the student success, Brazosport High School also served as the host site for this year’s UIL contest, welcoming 51 bands from across the region to compete. The Concert Band is led by Richard Schuetze, while the Symphonic Band is directed by Head Director Dennis Boucher.
“I am incredibly proud of the commitment these students have shown throughout the year,” said Boucher. “Earning a Sweepstakes is a direct reflection of their hard work, focus, and the pride they take in representing Brazosport High School. Hosting the event and performing at this level made the experience even more meaningful for our program.”
