Now in its fourth year of participation, BISD was among the first districts in the region to apply for and earn full program approval.

“Recognizing and supporting great teaching is essential to achieving our mission,” said Superintendent Danny Massey. “Programs like TIA allow us to invest in our people, strengthen instruction across our classrooms, and ensure each of our students are prepared for success beyond graduation.”

The TIA system allows teachers to earn one of three designation levels: Recognized, Exemplary, or Master, based on a combination of teacher evaluation, student growth, and attendance data. The goal of the program is to ensure that effective teachers have the opportunity to earn increased compensation while continuing to serve students in Brazosport ISD.

BISD’s TIA model offers all teachers pathways to qualify, regardless of subject area or grade level, including eligibility through National Board Certification. For the 2025–2026 cycle, BISD submitted 57 additional teachers for designation, with designations expected to be finalized this spring and funding distributed in summer 2026. Designated teachers will receive additional annual compensation ranging from $4,000 to $22,000 for up to five years, funded through the Texas Education Agency.

The district anticipates receiving more than $2 million in TIA funding this summer, with 90 percent of those funds going directly to teacher compensation. The remaining funds support program implementation, including teacher evaluations, training, and assessment systems.

Since joining the program, Brazosport ISD has designated 221 teachers and distributed more than $3 million in allotment funds, reinforcing the district’s commitment to attracting, retaining, and rewarding high-quality educators.

“As the TIA program evolves, we are excited to expand opportunities for our teachers to earn designations and additional compensation,” said Jennifer Nabors, Chief Human Resources Officer. “This work reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting educators and recognizing the meaningful difference they make for our students.”

TIA designations are based primarily on student growth, which accounts for 60 percent of a teacher’s score, along with teacher evaluations (30 percent) and attendance (10 percent). BISD data shows that teachers who earn designations consistently demonstrate strong student growth and high performance in the classroom.

BISD is also preparing for upcoming statewide enhancements to the TIA system that will expand opportunities for teacher designations. Under the current model, designations have primarily recognized top-performing teachers, generally aligning with the top 30 percent of eligible educators. Beginning with the 2025–2026 data cycle, a new “Acknowledged” designation will be added allowing districts to recognize up to the top 50 percent of eligible teachers through their local designation systems. This change will provide more educators the opportunity to earn additional compensation while maintaining a strong focus on performance and student growth.

As Brazosport ISD prepares to celebrate this year’s designated teachers, the district remains committed to expanding opportunities that recognize and support educator excellence across all campuses. By investing in teachers, BISD continues to strengthen classroom instruction and advance its mission to graduate each student to be future ready.
