Congratulations to Brazoswood senior Aubrin Antwine on being named a University of Texas at Austin Impact Scholar, earning a prestigious four-year, $48,000 scholarship! Aubrin’s remarkable achievements —from creating a free college-planning spreadsheet that has helped thousands of students to making a difference through BISD’s graphic design program— were strengthened by the guidance and support she received from BISD’s dedicated staff and opportunities.
UT Austin’s Impact Scholarship program recognizes students who have made a meaningful impact in their communities. While Aubrin is not certain which part of her application stood out most, her accomplishments tell a story. Over the summer she designed and shared a free online spreadsheet to help students organize college applications, scholarship searches, and test preparation. She posted it on her website and promoted it on TikTok, where she documents her experience as a first-generation college student. So far her template has been downloaded over 1,500 times and has earned a 98% five-star rating.
But Aubrin’s impact did not stop there. She also developed a
College Application Guide website for the district, which was originally designed to help 7th and 8th graders get an early start on the college process. Recognizing the need across all grade levels she has since expanded the guide to support students through their senior year. To ensure her work continues, she even created a video message encouraging next year’s NHS students to keep the guide updated so no student has to face the process alone. Working alongside BISD counselors she is helping launch a districtwide QR code poster so students of every grade can easily access the resource and find the guidance she once needed.
“I’ve always known scholarships were my ticket to college,” Aubrin explained. “This award lifts a huge burden off me and my mom, who has been raising me alone. Now, between this scholarship, others I’ve earned, and financial aid, my tuition and housing are covered—and we are so grateful.”
Aubrin is also a standout in BISD’s graphic design program. She designed and printed over 8,000 safety badges used district-wide—an accomplishment she highlighted during her UT Austin interview. She credits her teacher, Nova Rollo, for providing real-world projects and mentorship that helped her grow as a leader.
Aubrin also shared heartfelt thanks to the BISD educators who helped shape her journey, including teachers Brynn Petty, who guided her in writing a powerful personal statement that became her favorite part of her UT application and received high praise during interviews; Kyle Sitka, whose AP Government class sparked her passion for government and inspired her career path, as well as providing a strong letter of recommendation; and Laura McDonald, her counselor, whose thoughtful recommendation letter highlighted Aubrin’s strengths and became a key talking point in her scholarship interview.
“Aubrin is an outstanding scholar and person,” said Brazoswood Principal Dr. Jarrett Johnson. “During my first conversation with Aubrin last fall, I observed her to be a future thought-leader concerned for the greatest good of others. The scholarship committee has certainly chosen well, and we are so proud of Aubrin.”
“Leaders aren’t always the people who know the most—they’re the ones who connect with others best,” Aubrin reflected. “That has inspired me to keep helping others.”
Looking ahead, Aubrin will attend UT Austin, pursue a degree on the path to law school, and aims to become an attorney. She also plans to continue sharing her journey on social media and engaging in campus organizations to expand her impact.
Brazosport ISD congratulates Aubrin Antwine on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to seeing her future successes unfold!
