Velasquez brings extensive coaching and leadership experience across multiple roles, including Offensive Coordinator, Passing Game Coordinator, Interim Head Coach, Character Development Coordinator, and Head Track & Field Coach. He most recently served at Mesquite High School, where he led the football program’s offensive efforts and directed the track and field program, and oversaw character development initiatives.

Throughout his career Velasquez has emphasized accountability, team values, and relationship-building as foundations for success. While serving as Interim Head Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator at Mesquite Poteet High School, he implemented structured accountability systems that resulted in strengthening overall program discipline.

Previously, Velasquez served as Offensive Coordinator at North Forney High School, where the football team posted a 9–3 record during the 2023 season. His experience includes play-calling duties, offensive system development, staff collaboration, and program planning.

Beyond competition, Velasquez has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing student leaders and building meaningful community connections. He founded the S.A.I.L. (Serving Athletes & Inspiring Leaders) Mentor Program, which focuses on leadership development, academic growth, and service. He has also helped lead community initiatives such as mentorship programs, blood drives, and outreach events that strengthen relationships with families and feeder schools and community partners.

Velasquez earned his bachelor’s degree in University Studies from East Texas Baptist University and holds certifications in Physical Education and Special Education (EC–12). A former collegiate football student-athlete, he brings a player-centered perspective to his coaching philosophy, emphasizing character, discipline, and teamwork.

“Coach Velasquez understands the importance of building relationships and establishing clear program standards,” said BISD Athletic Director Jay Zeller. “He has a genuine ability to connect with students and families, and his enthusiasm, leadership style, and commitment to developing the whole student-athlete make him a strong fit for Brazosport High School.”

Velasquez said he is grateful for the opportunity to lead the Brazosport football program. “I am honored to join Brazosport ISD and excited to work with the student-athletes, staff, and families at Brazosport High School,” he shared. “My goal is to build strong relationships, uphold high standards, and help our students grow both on and off the field.”

Velasquez will begin his role as Head Football Coach in January. Brazosport ISD welcomes him to the district and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on students, staff, and athletics.
