Brazosport ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program continues to showcase excellence as the Brazoswood High School welding team earned top honors at the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Industrial Craft Competition, held at NRG Arena in Houston.

Competing against some of the region’s most skilled high school welding programs, Brazoswood students demonstrated exceptional technical ability, precision, and professionalism throughout the multi-day competition. Their efforts resulted in an impressive list of accolades, including:

  • Grand Champion – Overall
  • Grand Champion – Safety
  • Grand Champion – Built to Specification
  • Reserve Grand Champion – Presentation
  • 3rd Place – Project Controls

The Industrial Craft Competition challenges students to apply real-world skills in fabrication, welding, planning, and communication while working under the same pressures and expectations found in industry settings. Through this experience, students gain valuable hands-on knowledge that directly prepares them for future careers in the skilled trades.

“These results reflect the high level of dedication our students bring to their work,” said BISD CTE Coordinator Owen Dickson. “Their ability to perform at this level against top programs speaks to both their talent and their commitment to excellence.”

The district also recognizes the leadership of Brazoswood welding instructor Michael Strobel, whose expertise and mentorship play a critical role in the program’s continued success. His commitment to investing time, guidance, and support helps ensure students are well-prepared to compete and excel.

Most importantly, the achievement highlights the determination and work ethic of the students themselves. Countless hours of preparation, practice, and collaboration went into the project, reflecting both pride in their work and a shared commitment to success.

Brazosport ISD remains committed to providing meaningful, real-world learning experiences through its CTE programs, equipping students with the skills and confidence needed for success beyond graduation. With performances like this, the future of the skilled trades is bright.
