TEA Releases 2026 State Accountability Results

The Texas Education Agency has released the 2026 Accountability Results, which are based mostly on student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). Each year we have areas to celebrate. While we recognize accountability ratings are important, we also understand that the STAAR exam is not a comprehensive measure of our students’ learning outcomes. We are very proud of the efforts of our staff to ensure our students are learning at high levels.

Brazosport ISD campuses also received 26 Distinctions in 2026 in the following areas. Distinctions are awarded to campuses excelling in specific areas compared to similar campuses across the state. Distinctions are awarded in the following areas: Reading/ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Growth, Closing the Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness

BISD Earns Perfect Score in State’s Financial Integrity Rating System

Brazosport ISD has once again earned the highest possible rating in the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), receiving a perfect score of 100 and once again a Superior Achievement “A” rating.

The recognition reflects BISD’s continued commitment to responsible financial management, transparency and accountability. Since the state launched the FIRST rating system in 2001, Brazosport ISD has consistently earned the Superior Achievement designation.

The FIRST rating evaluates school districts on a series of financial indicators designed to measure the quality of their financial management practices. The evaluation considers areas such as administrative cost expenditures, the accuracy of financial reporting to TEA, compliance with debt obligations, long-term debt ratios and measures of financial solvency.

Superintendent Danny Massey said the rating demonstrates the importance of strong financial stewardship across the district. “A perfect score in the state’s financial integrity rating system is a meaningful accomplishment. It reflects the careful work of our Board of Trustees, financial team and district leaders to make responsible decisions with the resources entrusted to us. Sound financial management helps ensure we can continue investing in our students and moving forward with our mission to graduate each student future-ready.”

BISD’s perfect FIRST score continues a long-standing record of financial excellence and reinforces the district’s commitment to efficiency, accountability and responsible stewardship of community resources.

Many Ways to Make a Difference in the Lives of BISD Students

Every student benefits from having caring adults who encourage them, support their goals and help them see what is possible. In Brazosport ISD, that support comes from teachers and staff, but it also comes from parents, families, businesses, churches, organizations and community members who choose to invest in our students.

Community involvement can make a lasting difference in the life of a student. Whether it is a mentor who takes the time to listen, a volunteer who reads with a child, a business that partners with a school, a coach who encourages a student-athlete or a community member who simply finds a way to show support, these connections help students know they are cared for and supported.

BISD offers many opportunities for community members to get involved, and there is a place for everyone—regardless of how much time they have, what their interests are or what talents they can share.

Ways to Get Involved

All In for BISD — Connect with community partners who want to invest in student success through partnerships, shared opportunities and support for BISD schools and programs.
BISD Athletics — Support BISD student-athletes and athletic programs through volunteer opportunities, events and other forms of community support.
BISD LiftUp Mentoring Program — Make a lasting impact in the life of a student with just 30 minutes a week. LiftUp mentors encourage students, build relationships and provide support that helps students recognize and reach their full potential.
B.O.A.T.S. Mentoring Program — Building of Athletes Through Service (BOATS) connects community men—including many former BISD athletes—with football players for mentorship. The program provides students with positive role models who can encourage them both on and off the field.
BISD Reading Heroes — Help students build stronger reading skills and develop a love of reading by volunteering to read with students. Reading Heroes provide encouragement and positive adult interaction while helping students grow as readers.
Loving BISD — Show care for students, families and schools in practical ways by helping meet needs and spreading kindness throughout BISD and the community.
BISD Volunteers — Share your time and talents with BISD schools. Volunteers can make a difference in the lives of students and staff in many different ways, depending on their interests, skills and availability.
BISD Community Ambassadors — Become a voice for BISD by helping build positive relationships and greater awareness of the district and its schools throughout the community.

Community members can also learn more about BISD, its schools, programs and mission, as well as explore the BISD Virtual High School, which offers flexible learning options for students through fully virtual coursework or a hybrid model that combines online learning with Career and Technical Education, Fine Arts, athletics and other on-campus opportunities.

Every Connection Matters

Community involvement does not have to look the same for everyone. Some people may have the time to mentor a student each week. Others may volunteer at an event, read with students, support an athletic program, provide resources through a business partnership or simply find a way to encourage a student or teacher.

Each of those connections matters.

BISD believes students benefit when they have caring adults beyond the classroom who encourage them, support their goals and help them see what is possible.

“Our schools are stronger when our community is involved, and our students benefit from having more caring adults in their lives,” Superintendent Danny Massey said.

BISD is grateful for the many individuals, churches, businesses and organizations that already invest in its schools and students. For those who would like to get involved, the opportunities are many, and getting started is easy.

2026 Football Tickets are Now on Sale

Brazoswood Reserved Ticket Seating
Reserved seating tickets are available now through August 23, 2026 for Brazoswood HOME football games.

Reserved seating for the Buccaneer HOME football games are $44.00 for each set (5 home games). You must have a reserved ticket to sit in this section. Gold cards and BISD badges will not be allowed in section D. Go to https://gofan.co/app/events/season/174529 to select and purchase available seats. Please note that these tickets are non-refundable.

General Admission for Brazoswood and Brazosport
General admission tickets will be available for both high schools on the athletic pages, under ‘Tickets for pre-sale’ the week of the game until noon on game day.

All tickets for Brazosport games are general admission only; reserved seating is not available.

Sales Tax Holiday Aug. 7-9, 2026

This year’s Sales Tax Holiday begins Friday, August 7 and goes through midnight Sunday, August 9. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Subject to the criteria explained below, all sales of qualifying items made during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including items sold online, by telephone or mail. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.

Kelly Lackey Named as Brazosport ISD Chief Financial Officer

Brazosport ISD has named Kelly Lackey as the district's new Chief Financial Officer.

Mrs. Lackey brings more than 25 years of finance and accounting leadership experience across the public and private sectors. She previously served as Brazosport ISD's Director of Finance from 2017 to 2022 before taking on leadership roles with Wood, where she served as Senior Finance Manager for Governance and Controls.

"We are excited to welcome Kelly Lackey back to Brazosport ISD," Superintendent Danny Massey said. "She knows our district, our community, and the importance of being good stewards of taxpayer resources. Kelly is a respected financial leader whose experience, integrity, and commitment to excellence make her the right person to help lead our district's financial future as we continue serving students, staff, and families."

As Chief Financial Officer, Lackey will oversee the district's financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, financial reporting and long-range financial planning. She will work closely with district leadership to ensure responsible fiscal management while supporting the district's mission of preparing every student for success.

During her previous tenure with Brazosport ISD, Lackey directed financial and accounting operations for a district of more than 1,800 employees. She led campus and department budget development, coordinated annual independent audits, developed fiscal management procedures and helped ensure financial operations aligned with district goals.

Since leaving the district, Lackey has expanded her expertise in corporate finance and governance. At Wood, she strengthened financial governance, risk management and internal controls while partnering with global finance leaders to improve operational effectiveness and compliance.

"I am honored by the opportunity to serve as Chief Financial Officer and grateful for the chance to return to Brazosport ISD. I look forward to supporting the district's mission while working alongside such a dedicated team to serve our students, staff and community," Lackey shared.

She holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, along with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Lackey is replacing Ludivina Cansino, who has accepted the same position with Round Rock ISD.
