At the September 18, 2023 Brazosport ISD School Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the School Marshal Program.

The School Marshal Program holds a high standard for candidates authorized to carry weapons on campuses. BISD aims to recruit retired police officers or former military personnel as School Marshals.

School Marshals are required to have:

  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) License
  • Pass a physical and psychological exam
  • Candidates will be vetted by BISD Police Chief Wade Nichols and Security Director Ty Morrow

Again, we are targeting retired police officers or former military personnel who would be willing to work as a security officer in our district. It is important to note that this is not the Guardian Program, which allows teachers to be armed.

Safety is the top priority in BISD and the ability to employ well trained, experienced, and certified School Marshals on an as-needed basis adds an extra layer of security for our students and staff.
