I want to follow up with you this afternoon regarding our lockdown at Brazoswood High School this morning. We know a lockdown can be unsettling for our students, parents, and staff.

This morning, just before the start of school, one of our security systems on our cameras alerted us to an image of a student who appeared to be carrying what could have been a weapon. Please know that we chose to err on the side of safety first with the information we had at the time, and Brazoswood followed our safety protocols and went into lockdown. We were soon notified by the security system that the image that caused the suspicion was not a weapon. Our campus staff were also able to verify that the student was not carrying a weapon. Please understand that there was never a student with a weapon on or near campus this morning.

We are aware of the effect this event could have on our students and have counseling services available if needed. Brazoswood student absences will be excused for today.

We appreciate the tremendous efforts of our Brazoswood staff and students, and the timely response of our BISD and municipal police departments. We will have an ‘After Action Review’ to use this event as a learning tool for what went well and areas where improvement may be needed.
