This is the image for the news article titled School Based Mentoring Alliance Texas ConferenceOver 15 districts of school based mentoring programs from Frisco to League City and many in between gathered in Conroe Friday, September 22 to learn and grow their programs together.

The School Based Mentoring Alliance (SBMA) was formed six years ago to fill a gap of support for people doing the mentoring work in schools and to help those that wanted to get a program started in their district.

The conference theme was Keys to Connection and included a Loyola University Chicago Professor, Dr. Julia Pryce, a message for Shannon Brown, LPC and a panel of mentors with helpful advice for program practitioners.

Brazosport ISD’s LIFT UP Mentoring program coordinator, Sharon Ritchie was part of the leadership team for the conference along with Pearland ISD’s Mandy Benedix, RISE Mentoring and Conroe ISD’s Angela Matthew, Project Mentor. Also in attendance was BISD’s ASCEND Program Specialist, Melissa Soto.

The event was a great reminder of the importance mentoring programs bring to students and an equally great reminder that working together to meet student needs is always better.
