Elementary Spotlight Educator Kayla Swift, Polk Elementary
Kayla Swift, a 4th-grade Math and Science teacher at Gladys Polk Elementary, has garnered well-deserved recognition for her remarkable contributions to the education community. Mrs. Swift's unwavering commitment to her students and peers is truly inspiring. One of her standout accomplishments has been the establishment of a newspaper club for third and fourth graders called "Panda Press" to highlight their writing skills while also learning important journalism skills. Students can learn to write and convey their thoughts, ideas, and impressions. This is just one example of the remarkable things happening in her class!

Her colleagues speak highly of her continuous pursuit of learning and her readiness to share resources and support fellow teachers. She fosters collaboration within her team and embodies a growth mindset by exploring innovative teaching methods to connect with students. They shared how she has a continued drive and desire to keep learning and is willing to go to others to make herself the best that she can be. “Kayla is also extremely humble and willing to share all her resources. She goes out of her way to encourage and build up others around her. Kayla always thinks of the "little details" that make coworkers and students feel valued and appreciated. She values input from her fellow teachers and encourages collaboration within her team. She truly demonstrates a growth mindset by looking for new ways to teach skills or connect with students."

Secondary Spotlight Educator Shawna Wallace, Freeport Intermediate School
Shawna Wallace, a Special Education Co-Teacher for 7th and 8th graders at Freeport Intermediate School, is another exceptional educator who has been honored with the BISD Educator Spotlight Award.

Mrs. Wallace's unwavering commitment to the mission of Freeport Intermediate School and Brazosport ISD shines through her caring and selfless approach to education. Her love for the school and its students is evident in her daily efforts to meet the needs of all students while fostering a positive learning environment.
