In the spring, Cristian will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for about 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million.

The National Merit Semifinalist Corporation (NMSC) competition began with about 1.5 million students from over 22,000 high schools across the nation. As a finalist, Cristian ranks in the top 0.5% of students across the country.

Cristian is the son of Sonia and Tim Finley. He is active in multiple areas on the Brazoswood campus and community. Cristian has been involved with Buccaneer Band, Honor Societies and Rocketry. He is currently the Team Manager for the Goddard level Rocketry Program. Cristian is a trumpet section leader and enjoys both marching and concert band. He serves as the Treasurer of the Math National Honor Society and Vice President of the National Honor Society. Cristian has received Merit Awards in Biology, English III and Physics 1.

Cristian is also highly involved outside of campus by volunteering as a tutor and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. His scout project included building over 150 dividers for classrooms in assistance of COVID-19 protocols. After High School, he plans to Major in chemical Engineering with his sights set on a career in aerospace.

“This outstanding accomplishment speaks to the quality of education our students receive every day in our schools,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.

The PSAT will be offered to all current Brazoswood Juniors on October 13, 2021 which will enter our current students for the 2023 National Merit competition.
