This is the image for the news article titled Second Class of AP Research Students Launch StudiesBrazosport ISD is excited to announce that the second class of AP Capstone Research students are beginning the data collection phase of their research projects.

Brazoswood High School junior Erin Dy, who is in the second year of the AP Capstone program, had this to say, “The AP Capstone program has taught me how to be more confident as a student. I have learned how to formulate research questions and present my information in an efficient manner. I have also gained important public speaking skills, preparing me for college and beyond.”

Brazoswood teacher Brandyn Hargrove has enjoyed teaching the courses because she feels it helps prepare her students for the college setting. “The Capstone curriculum does an excellent job of preparing students for all post-secondary education. By the end of the two-year program, students will be able to conduct their own research, analyze the data, and defend their research just as they would in a dissertation for a master or doctoral degree,” Hargrove says.

Many of our students are conducting surveys to gather data. If you would like to explore the topics and participate in any of the anonymous surveys you might qualify for, please check out AP Research Topics and Surveys.

Brazosport ISD launched the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone program three years ago. The district is one of about 2,000 high schools in the United States currently offering this program. Rather than teaching subject-specific content, the two courses in this program develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. This program was developed in collaboration with universities across the country to equip students with the research skills necessary to be successful in post-secondary education.
