BISD’s largest campus, Brazoswood High School, was recognized for its ability to prove measurable results in academic performance and student engagement in an environment where every student belongs. Jostens Renaissance announced that Brazoswood High School was one of only seven schools nationwide to be named a Platinum Tier Renaissance School of Distinction.

By receiving a School of Distinction designation Brazoswood is recognized for its commitment to following the national programs' formula to improve school climates. Its formula emphasizes respect, recognition, rewards, reinforcing programs and relationships to get results.

To reach the Platinum level of this award, Brazoswood implemented strategies in 14 separate areas, and then described and documented their successes through a rigorous application process. They are now a key contributor to the Renaissance community showing other schools how they can have a similar impact on their culture. These efforts would be worthy of recognition in any year, but to achieve this status following a pandemic shows true grit and commitment to ensure student success and teamwork.

According to the Jostens Renaissance website, schools that follow the Renaissance Formula often see a renewed climate and culture that contributes to:

  • increased attendance and graduation rates
  • improved academic performance and behavior
  • higher teacher retention rates
  • a boost in overall school spirit

“We are very proud of this national level award that reviews measures that make up school climate,” said Brazosport ISD Superintendent Danny Massey. “It is evidence that Brazoswood High School is a safe place to learn and connect with students and staff.”

Principal Rita Pintavalle, teacher Stephanie Jess, and student council members Gracie Price, Klarisa Pina, and Madelyn Nichols were recognized during the 2022 Jostens Renaissance Conference where they received a banner and other recognition items to commemorate this outstanding achievement.
