Each year Brazosport ISD recognizes the leadership, service, and dedication of two campus principals with this award. This year the district selected Mandy Bundick of Polk Elementary School as BISD’s Elementary Principal of the Year and Dr. Jarrett Johnson of Freeport Intermediate School was named BISD’s Secondary Principal of the Year.

Mrs. Bundick is an advocate for all students and sets high expectations for students and staff. In her first year as principal she helped to move the campus from a B rating to an A rated school earning four distinctions by creating systems and procedures for best practices. She ensures that Polk Elementary is a positive learning environment and exemplifies hard work and dedication.

Bundick has been a successful educator for more than 28 years. Before being named the principal of Polk Elementary School, she had served as an elementary teacher at TW Ogg Elementary School, high school teacher at Brazosport High School, a school counselor at Brannen and Polk elementary schools, and as an assistant principal at Bess Brannen Elementary School.

Amanda graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a Bachelor Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with teaching certifications in grades 1-8 all subjects, 6-12 English/Language Arts, and grades 6-12 Dance. She then obtained her Masters of School Counseling from the University of Houston-Victoria and her Principal Certification from Lamar University.

Dr. Johnson truly believes all means all, and has established a culture where the staff of Freeport Intermediate School (FIS) works diligently to ensure students are successful academically and continue to grow socially through developmentally appropriate structures, routines and activities across campus.

Dr. Jarrett Johnson has served as principal of FIS since 2020. He previously was an assistant principal at Galena Park Middle School (6th-8th) in Galena Park ISD. He began his teaching career as a math teacher at North Shore Middle School (6th-8th) in GPISD. Johnson earned his PHD in Education Ethical Leadership from University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.
