The school was built utilizing part of the 267 million dollar bond referendum which was passed by the community in May 2019. Although staff and students have been in the school since August, the front stacking lanes, parking and grounds were not completed until January.

“There’s a huge sense of pride in the community about this new state of the art Brazoswood High School.” said Superintendent Danny Massey. “This new facility offers our students more hands-on college and career readiness opportunities, as well as providing innovative spaces that were intentionally designed to meet the needs of every student.”

Phase 3, the 278,000 square foot (sf) Brazoswood Senior High School, serves approximately 2,500 students and replaced the former campus, and connected the new campus to the H.E. Marcum 9th Grade Center. “I think one of the most exciting things was when we actually connected the freshman campus to the main campus, where students did not have to go outside to go to the freshman campus.” stated Brazoswood Principal Rita Pintavalle, “It doesn't feel like individual separate buildings - we feel like Brazoswood High School!”

The three-story academic wing provides academic departments to be grouped together with innovative teacher collaboration spaces and student think spaces to promote flexible small group studies and collaboration. Larger group areas were designed into the building with a flexible large group instruction room and tiered seating adjacent to the dining commons. The new fine arts spaces provide state of the art rehearsal spaces, practice rooms, acoustical treatments and storage areas. The new auditorium, the Koch & Casey Auditorium dedicated on Saturday, February 18, accommodates over close to 1000 seats and has a separate entrance into the building.

The campus is designed with learning spaces and is detailed with large graphics. “I love the signage that says ‘Where Ya From? Brazoswood!’ It gives them [students] ownership and makes them feel like they are part of something bigger.” commented English teacher Brandyn Hargrove, also a Bwood alum.

The new Brazoswood High School was designed to provide a secure entrance vestibule and minimize possible entry points into the building. The design process included students, staff, and members from the community. Utilizing VLK | CURATION®, community members collaborated to create the vision of the new high school and associated facilities. Brazoswood was built to ensure that spaces were designed with teachers and students in mind.
