What is SchoolMessenger and why is the district using it?

SchoolMessenger is simply a state-of-the-art automated notification system which enables a school district to contact parents, staff and students in a timely manner.  It can easily send a voice and/or email and text messages to thousands of land line phones or cell phones in a matter of minutes.  A major reason the district chose to use SchoolMessenger is to contact parents in emergency situations when quick notification is critical.  Many districts now use this or a similar type of notification system.

What type of messages will I receive from SchoolMessenger?

SchoolMessenger will be used to send messages about weather closures, campus safety alerts, emergencies, etc. The school district administration can send critical messages to the entire district, a school or select groups.

How do I sign up for SchoolMessenger?

Parents and guardians do not need to sign up for SchoolMessenger if they have provided current contact information to their child's school.

To receive text messages from BISD you must OPT IN by texting YES to 67587.

What contact information was uploaded into SchoolMessenger?

Contact information was uploaded from our student information system. We have uploaded the following information: Home phone, cell phone and one email address (if applicable).

Please Note: If your cell phone is your primary phone, leave your home phone blank and only add your cell phone number.

How do I update my contact information on file?

For Parents/Students: You can update your contact information through Parent Self Serve or by contacting your child's school. It is important that your child's school has up-to-date contact information in order to reach you regarding your child.

For BISD Employees: You can update your contact information through the Employee Service Center or by contacting Human Resources.

How can I opt in or out to receive important alerts via SMS text message?

To receive text messages, after providing your cell number within the Parent Self Serve, you must indicate your willingness to participate. You can do this by sending a text from the cell phone on file, to 67587 with the word Yes to opt in or the word Stop to opt out. You should receive a response if successful.

Note text messages only deliver to those marked as a parent or guardian's cell phone number on record. Using the text messaging option is your choice. Standard text messaging rates may apply.

Is SchoolMessenger secure?

Your student's information is stored on a secure server and all personal data is sent in an encrypted format. Please remember, just like with any application, if you give your password to anyone, including your child, your contact information can be changed and messages can be diverted or discontinued.

Can messages be sent in languages other than English?

Yes, SchoolMessenger can send information in multiple languages. Parents must select their language preference when they complete the student information.

Is there a way to repeat the message?

Yes. It is possible to repeat the message by pressing the *(star) key.

Missed announcements can be accessed by dialing 979-730-7080.

Who should I call if I have questions?

If you have questions, please contact your student's home campus.
