Career Development Events (CDE) are designed to help Future Farmers of America (FFA) members prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student’s technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. On January 31, students from Brazoswood traveled to Sam Houston State University where they competed in the Area 3 Tractor Tech Competition.
The tractor tech competition is comprised of three parts:
Part one is the written test which is 100 questions about the science and physics of tractor equipment and how they operate.
Part two has 20 components with 5 questions over each component; students must answer questions to diagnose each component and determine its ability.
Part three mandates that students diagnose 5 problems in a brand new tractor, fix the problem, and then drive it within a 30 minute window.
The Brazoswood team was 3rd overall qualifying them for the state contest!
Team members include Jacy Wadhams, Kenneth Bengtson and Malachi Keefe.
This team will move on to the two day state event at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) starting on March 15, 2020 where scholarships and tools are up for grabs.
Congratulations to teacher Chase Watson and these fine FFA students!
