In his five years as Brazosport Independent School District’s superintendent, Danny Massey has overseen the massive turnaround of our schools, leading us back to setting the standard for educational excellence throughout the state. In managing the implementations of the 2012, 2014 bonds, and now the 2019 bond, Massey is championing the rebuilding and remodeling of Brazosport ISD’s schools, through brick and mortar as well as through human capital.

Superintendent Massey was selected this past year as one of only 25 superintendents from across the nation to participate in the Thompson Executive Leadership Institute for their Superintendent Academy. Membership in the Superintendent Academy is competitive and by invitation only. Mr. Massey has also found the time to serve as a Brazoria County Community Planning member is presently a board member of the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce and serves on the DOW Citizens Advisory Panel. Professionally, Massey is an active member of the Texas Association School Administrators, the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association of School Superintendents.

Karla Christman has served as the president of the Instructional Materials Coordinators’ Association of Texas (IMCAT), a statewide organization committed to providing school districts with the most current and accurate information regarding instructional materials.  She has also testified before the Texas House and Senate’s Public Education Committees, as well as the Texas Education Agency, regarding the instructional material needs of students throughout the state.

Christman also supports several community and civic organizations within the Brazosport area. She is a Paul Harris Plus 1 Rotarian, serving two terms on the board of directors of the Brazosport Rotary Club. She has served on the Salvation Army’s Annual Bunny Hop committee since its inception and is a former board member for the Brazoria County Salvation Army. Christman was also a member of the Brazoria County Walk for Habitat Committee. In the past, she has served on the City of Lake Jackson’s 70th and 75th Anniversary Planning Committees as well as on the Brazoria County Veterans’ Day Celebration Committee.

Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce honors "a man and a woman” who have distinguished themselves through service within the Brazosport community. The 2019 Man & Woman of the Year was announced during the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce’s 75th Annual Banquet, held February 20, 2020.
