“I’m really proud of our student council for receiving this award for all of the hard work we have done throughout this school year even through the different circumstances we had to deal with.” Aubree Smith, Student Body President.“

Brazoswood StuCo has worked especially hard this year to meet the needs of all our students and staff, both face to face and virtual,” says Stephanie Jess, Brazoswood Student Council Advisor. “This group of student leaders faced many challenges to keep the school spirit up when traditional events could not be completed due to covid restrictions. Through hard work and thinking outside the box, they were able to implement projects that raised school spirit and kept our students and staff safe.”

Principal Rita Pintavalle stated, “The Brazoswood Student Council provides multiple fundraisers for charities, completes 5 blood drives per year, and enhances the campus culture and climate with student and staff activities each year. We are excited to hear the news of their highly deserved National recognition.”

To meet the requirements for the National Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process, the councils have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community. Councils awarded receiving the award have successfully met all required criteria based on standards established by the National Student Council.“

Receiving a National Council of Excellence Award reflects dedication on the part of the school to providing a strong, well-rounded student council program,” said Nara Lee, National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Director of Student Leadership. “NatStuCo applauds the work of the National Councils of Excellence and challenges them to continue their leadership and service to their schools and communities.”
