Jerry Adkins Elected President of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards
BISD Board Secretary Jerry Adkins was recently elected to serve as President for the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards. The Gulf Coast Area Association encompasses 7 counties covering 87 public school districts and public education. In this capacity, Mr. Adkins will be able to be a leader for key topics that affect the future of our students.
“We are proud to have board members like Mr. Adkins who are very involved in our local community, as well as involved in educational decisions made across the state and nation,” said BISD Superintendent Danny Massey.
Mr. Adkins is known for his knowledge on all things related to educating students. In addition to serving on our local school board, in 2019 he was selected as a member of the National Advocacy Institute Conference, which has allowed him to share important messages with Congress and the White House. He is also an advocacy delegate for the Texas Association of School Boards.
Mr. Adkins has lived in the Brazosport community with his wife, Barbara, for over 48 years. He has served on the Brazosport ISD School Board for the past nine years, elected in 2013 in single member District 2, which encompasses much of the Clute area.
Jerry and Barbara’s three children are all graduates of Brazosport ISD. Mr. Adkins worked as a project manager for Dow Chemical, retiring after 42 years of service.
