Brazosport ISD is pleased to announce new campus administrators to lead us into the 2021-2022 school year. Educators Shannon Hester, Sheri Minter, Tara Belote, Selina Ivy, Misty Hummel, Mindy Youngs, Joe Owens, Jessica Toliver, and Chrystal Tate.

Shannon Hester
Principal - Lighthouse Learning Center

Mrs. Shannon Hester grew up in Yukon Oklahoma until 9th grade when her family moved to Port Neches-Groves, Texas. Mrs. Hester attended the University of Texas in Dallas and earned her Bachelor of Psychology and later attended Lamar University where she received her Master of Education. Hester has been in education for 17 years, recently serving as an administrator at Brazoswood High School. Mrs. Hester believes, “… that an educator that engages students can spark a dream, ignite a fire and fuel a future.”


Sheri Minter
Principal – Lake Jackson Intermediate School

Ms. Minter grew up in Brazoria County and attended the University of Houston, Clear Lake, earning Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and her Master of Educational Leadership.Ms. Minter has been an educator for 26 years, working in the classroom, serving as a district administrator and a campus administrator. Ms. Minter married her high school sweetheart and they have 2 sons - ages 20 & 16. Minter chose to become an educator and a teacher because of all of the supporting and impactful relationships she had with her own teachers in school. She states that, “I am fortunate that teachers at every level K - College invested in me; they encouraged me and helped me   find the confidence and leadership I didn't know I had inside.”


Tara Belote

Mrs. Tara Belote grew up in Angleton and attended Brazosport College, the University of Houston - Clear Lake for her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and received her Master of Science degree in Educational Management also from U of H Clear Lake. Belote has 26 years in education, serving as a paraprofessional, a classroom teacher and campus administrator. Mrs. Belote believes that, “We are    here to grow and support all stakeholders -- every student, every staff member, our parents, and our community.”


Selina Ivy

Mrs. Selina Ivy, while growing up in Brazoria County, earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Houston – Clear Lake and her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Mrs. Ivy is beginning her 22nd year in education and she “strongly believe[s] that through building relationships, collaboration, and communication ALL students can achieve success.” Ivy has wanted to be an educator since she was in 2nd grade, playing school with her siblings and cousins. Mrs. Ivy and her husband have 5 children and 5 grandchildren.


Mindy Youngs
Assistant Principal – Brazoswood High School

Mrs. Mindy Youngs grew up in Argyle, a small town near Denton, Texas. Youngs attended Weatherford College and then the University of Texas at Arlington earning her Bachelor of Business Administration and later attended Lamar University where she received her Master of Education in Educational Leadership. Youngs and her husband Danny, head football coach for the Buccaneers, have a 6 year old who attends Brannen Elementary School. Mrs. Youngs believes that, “It's our responsibility to ensure we are meeting our students where they are, meeting their needs, and growing them into successful members of society.” Youngs says that she is, “….so excited and grateful for the opportunity to be a leader for Brazoswood High School.”


Joe Owens
Assistant Principal – Brazoswood High School

Mr. Joe Owens, beginning his 26th year in education, comes to Brazoswood High School from Fairfield, Texas, where he was a campus administrator. Mr. Owens grew up in Oklahoma and earned his BA from the University of Oklahoma and later earned his MA from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK. Owens followed his mom, a long-time teacher, into the field of education. Mr. Owens is married and he has one adult son. into  has been in education for 17 years, recently serving as an administrator at Brazoswood High School. Owens believes, “… that all students can learn at a high level but that  education is a team effort and everyone must do their part to make the parts work.”


Jessica Toliver
Assistant Principal – Brazoswood High School

Mrs. Jessica Toliver is a familiar face in BISD, recently teaching physical education at Lake Jackson Intermediate School. Toliver grew up in Holiday, Texas – right outside Wichita Falls in the panhandle. Mrs.Toliver graduated with honors from Texas Tech University with a BS in Exercise and Sport Sciences, with a minor in Education. She then earned her Master Degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. Toliver and her husband Jeffery, head track coach at Brazoswood, have 2 young children.

Misty Hummel
Assistant Principal – Freeport Intermediate School

Mrs. Misty Hummel is a new face in BISD, coming to our district from Galena Park. Hummel grew up in Channelview, Texas, and married her high school sweetheart. Mrs. Hummel earned her bachelor degree from the University of Houston, Clear Lake, and her Master Degree of Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston. Hummel became an educator because she, “...wanted to make a difference in the lives of others,” and believed that “... education is key to acquiring the life you want.”


Crystal Tate
Assistant Principal – Brazoswood High School

Mrs. Crystal Tate is joining Brazoswood High School as an assistant principal this school year. Tate comes to BISD from Alvin where she served as the ESL Liaison. Mrs. Tate graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and she attained her Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Tate’s husband is also an educator and they have 3 college aged children. Mrs. Tate is also a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the first intercollegiate historically African American sorority.
