Well, with basketball season starting, fans of the Brazosport’s Exporters might notice a couple of new additions to the gyms - two banners on the walls of each gymnasium. The Class of 1970 teamed up once again to raise funds to purchase banners that display the lyrics of the school’s Fight Song and Alma Mater on the walls of the gymsd used for practice and games.
The purchasing and getting the banners mounted in time for basketball season was spearheaded by proud 1970 graduate Steve Stein, with the help of the 1970’s Valedictorian Rodney Schmidt, Class President Lynn Eckeberger and student Representative Larry Griffin. Several were members of the 1969-70 Exporter basketball team themselves.
Stein and his teammates joined together to raise the funds to purchase the printed red banners and working with BISD Athletic Director Alan Weddell (1969 Bport grad), had the banners hung in October, just in time for basketball practice to really kick off.
The Brazosport Class of 1970 was the last senior class that graduated students from all over the Brazosport area as it was the last class before the first round of seniors from Brazoswood’;s Class of 1971.
BISD and Brazosport High School want to thank Pastor Lynn Eckeberger, Steve Stein, Larry Griffith, and Rodney Schmidt, along with the members of the class of 1970, for donating these important keepsakes to the school.
