Maddison Schwentner was recently awarded the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) Scholarship, which pays for students to be able to experience Germany firsthand for an entire year following graduation. Maddison received the home-stay exchange program scholarship and will spend next year abroad as an American exchange student in Germany.

The CBYX Scholarship is given to qualifying students who have studied German culture and language. It is awarded to only 350 high school students from across the entire nation. Maddison has studied the German language and culture all four years of high school, including this year as an Advanced Placement German IV student under the instruction of Morgann Swenson, who presented the scholarship to her during the award ceremony held at the Clarion at Brazosport College this week.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship is for motivated high school students who want to experience a culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience. Recipients will learn about German culture firsthand by living with a host family and attending a German high school.

As a scholarship recipient, Maddison will:

  • Participate in unique pre-departure activities to prepare for a meaningful year in Germany
  • Attend language lessons upon arrival in Germany
  • Meet with U.S. and German government representatives
  • Membership in the dynamic U.S. State Department and CBYX program alumni communities

We wish you all the best Maddison in this unique opportunity and adventure! To read more about the scholarship program go to https://usagermanyscholarship.org.
