This is the image for the news article titled Commissioner Dude Payne Honored with Extra Mile AwardAt the October Regular Board meeting, BISD honored County Commissioner Dude Payne (Precinct 1) with a “BISD Extra” Mile Award. The district created the "Extra Mile" Award several years ago to recognize individuals or groups for their dedication to students and their willingness to go the Extra Mile for BISD. Superintendent Danny Massey and the Board of Trustees recognized Commissioner Payne for his willingness to go the “Extra Mile” for BISD children.

Commissioner Dude Payne is a third generation Brazoria County resident, from a family known for their many gifts of service to our community. Payne is a product of BISD schools – as is most of his entire family, and he is a proud 1974 graduate of Brazoswood High School. Commissioner Payne and his wife Deborah have four children, five grandsons, five granddaughters, one great grandson, and one great granddaughter.

Payne began his first term as Precinct 1 County Commissioner in 2001, and he has served the residents of Precinct 1 as well as being a tremendous partner with Brazosport ISD for the past 19 years. As County Commissioner, Payne has always been willing to help our schools, our students and our teachers.

Commissioner Dude Payne has served on BISD committees, supported our Backpack Program that feeds BISD students over weekends and holidays, he has been a member of BISD’s Community Leadership Team, and supported the Natalie Woolsey Toy Drive that provides books for BISD elementary students. Payne has been an unwavering advocate of our BISD Education Foundation since its inception almost 20 years ago, and he continues to be an avid supporter of the Foundation today.

Recently, with the building of our new schools from the 2014 Bond and the new facilities that we are building with the 2019 Bond, Commissioner Payne has provided invaluable support for several facility projects. When BISD needed new tracks at Lanier Middle School, Madge Griffith, Stephen F Austin, Gladys Polk and at our Old Brannen & Roberts campuses, Commissioner Payne sent his crews to handle the labor of those projects. He had his team complete the parking lots and road at Brazosport High School’s baseball and softball fields. And Commissioner Payne had his team build an additional drive at the old Bess Brannen Elementary School to help relieve the traffic congestion around the school. Commissioner Payne’s Precinct 1 workers also handled the road work on the service drive behind Brazoswood High School.

Commissioner Dude Payne works tirelessly for all of Precinct 1 and Brazosport ISD is grateful that Commissioner Payne chooses to go the Extra Mile for our schools,  especially for our students.
