This historic tax rate reduction is a testament to BISD's commitment to fiscal responsibility and serving its community.

Since the 2019 school year, the BISD School Board has continuously decreased the property tax rate by a total of 30 cents. This ongoing effort reflects the board's dedication to delivering tangible benefits to property owners within the district.

BISD's remarkable 18-cent reduction equates to approximately $540 in savings for homeowners with a property valued at $300,000. Homeowners will also see an increase in the homestead exemption; previously at $40,000, this exemption will be $100,000 beginning with tax year 2023. The district's ability to implement this cost-saving measure is due to robust tax base growth, coupled with recent legislative support resulting in meaningful relief for property owners.

Superintendent Danny Massey expressed his gratitude for the community's unwavering support in recent bond elections, which enabled the construction of new schools, CTE facilities, and many other upgrades without necessitating an increase in property tax rates. He remarked, "There are many accomplishments to be proud of in BISD. One of which is our community's continued support in bond elections which has allowed us to build new schools and upgrade facilities. This board-approved property tax rate decrease is a sign of continued commitment by the board and administration to provide new facilities and programs for the community and relief to property owners."

It is important to note that some members of our community may still see an increase in their overall tax bill due to elevated property values. BISD does not set the appraised value of real property. We encourage everyone to reach out to their county appraisal district with questions and concerns related to their appraised value.

The BISD School Board and administration remain steadfast in their commitment to advocate and pursue further tax rate reductions as the community continues to experience growth in both residential and commercial properties. BISD is dedicated to creating the highest quality of education while exercising fiscal responsibility.
