At the beginning of each school year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo selects various CTE high school programs throughout the Gulf Coast to participate in a full-scale creation and judging of an industrial piping skid in coordination with the Industrial Craft Competition (ICC).  The project includes various learning opportunities for CTE students including safety, estimating, scheduling, fabrication, welding, and electrical.

“As their teacher, I'm extremely proud of my students who just won Grand Champion. Their achievement reflects the dedication and hard work they have put in throughout the year. It's been incredibly rewarding to watch these students grow in their leadership skills, working together as a team, as well as supporting each other through challenges. When announced as Grad Champions, it was awesome to see how excited and proud these students were with smiles and even a few tears of joy,” said Welding Instructor Michael Strobel.

Each student participating in the competition was assigned various roles on the team. Below are the students' names and their roles on the team.

The Industrial Craft Competition helps to foster the development of industrial craft skills for students who are enrolled in career and technical education programs from schools across Texas. Teams construct a spec-built project that is judged by industry experts. Each team is required to deliver a brief presentation to the judges, preceded by a detailed inspection of the project. Industry mentors work with high school instructors to provide their expertise and guidance. In addition, the students keep a journal of their progress that covers their roles, the project safety plan, an incident log, the project schedule, and any rework that was completed.
