BISD Board Approves Construction Contract for New Brazosport High School Multi-Sport Field House and Athletic Facility Improvements
In May 2019, voters passed a $267 million bond program that included the construction of the following facilities and improvements at Brazosport High School:
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) Facility addition and improvements
- New multi-sport athletic field house
- New concession, restroom, fencing, and pressbox for the softball field
- Parking lot improvements to the baseball/softball complex
- New field fencing and scoreboards at baseball/softball fields Resurfacing tennis courts and fencing improvements Parking lot (front) expansion
- Security lighting improvements
- Bleacher replacement in gym
- Kitchen equipment replacement
- Hopper Field concession improvements and restroom addition
- Hopper Field entry and ticket booth improvements
- Hopper Field walkway from parking area and lighting
- Hopper Field drainage and lighting improvements under the bleachers
The District engaged VLK Architects and the design development for a new multi-sport field house and other athletic improvements at baseball, softball, tennis and Hopper Field have been completed.
The new Brazosport High School Multi-Sport Field House and Athletic Improvements is phase one of a two-phase, $43.4 million project. The Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees approved a construction contract on Monday, April 25, 2022 with Drymalla Construction to complete construction of the phase one projects.
This new multi-sport facility will open in the Fall of 2023, at which time the old field house will be demolished making room for additional parking. The current weight room will receive exterior improvements and remain as an indoor practice facility.
The new facility will be located on the north side of the campus site offering direct student access during and after school hours. The facility will serve over 500 high school students participating in athletics. State of the art amenities includes a 5,000 square foot strength and conditioning weight room, prevention and rehabilitation athletic training and rehabilitation room and a multi-use meeting room.
Male and female athletes have separate exterior entrances to their dressing areas, coupled with integrated coaches’ offices and dedicated access ways to common areas, creating a safe and secure environment for students within the building.
The construction for the athletic improvements in phase one will be staggered to minimize the disruption to each sport’s season. Tennis courts will be resurfaced and ready in August 2022. The anticipated completion for improvements at the softball and baseball fields will be December 2022. Construction at Hopper Field will begin after the 2022 football season and will be completed by August 2023.
The Career and Technical Education additions, improvements and other campus improvements will be included in phase two projects, which are in the design phase with an anticipated contract awarded in November 2022.
